Camera Raw 10.2: (Filter) Incompatible With PS CC2018 19.1.1

Okay, quite a few of us have a problem with the latest release Camera Raw (Filter). The problem:

  • Open a JPEG (with no ACR settings) in Photoshop. 
  • Filter>Camera Raw Filter 
  • "Unable to use the Camera Raw plugin. It is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

The ACR filter is the only problem here. If we open a RAW file in any way, Camera Raw works fine in all operations. If fact, the Camera Raw filter will work, providing you do any of the following operations first, before opening a JPEG :

  • Reset Camera Raw preferences (with Photoshop open)
  • Open a Raw file (with Photoshop open)
  • Edit>Preferences>Camera Raw >OK
Once Photoshop is restarted, however, the Camera Raw filter will not open.

Benjamin can we expect something to happen in Photoshop on the interface of resizing. At the moment being controlled through windows it just mucks up the rest of Windows settings

Can you please try the following workaround from Eric on the Camera Raw team:

1.  Make sure Ps is not running. 2.  Launch Ps.

3.  Go to the Edit menu -> Preferences sub-menu -> Camera Raw... (at the very bottom).

4.  Close the ACR Preferences dialog.

5.  Open/create any document in Ps (such as a JPEG).

6.  Try to run Camera Raw Filter.

 

Does the ACR Filter work now?

Yes, the Camera Raw filter works correctly after following those steps. 

Am I correct to suspect the ACR preferences are failing to automatically load when Photoshop is launched?

a BIG me too from me.

i have the issue on 2 systems.
both intel and amd cpus with windows 64 bit 1709.

@jeffrey. that works for ONE session, after closing and restarting photoshop it does not work.

also when loading a real RAW file before using the filter it works.

there must be some initializing error with the filter.

We can now reproduce the issue here and are looking into getting it fixed. In the meantime, you can open any RAW file first, and the filter will work until you quit and restart PS. Thanks.

Hi Rosa,

Rolling back might be the best option for now. If you’d like to keep the latest version there are a few workarounds listed in the forum.adobe.com thread. I’ll post a few links, which should take you to the exact comment. I’ll post the name of the user posting the reply, for reference:

Thanks so much Benjamin for posting the links, which I'm really grateful for. I found using the work around as described by MadManChan2000 works for me, so will keep the latest version of ACR Filter. It's not a big deal for me to go into preferences first when opening Photoshop, as long as I can access the ACR Filter, I'm happy.  It's been interesting reading through the links you've posted and I thank you once again. :)
