Lightroom Classic: Drag & Drop no longer works for import

Up until the recent update (Lightroom Classic 9.2 Build : 202001311240-2d026470) I used to be able to do a selection in Bridge (e.g. multiple stages of star rating) and then drag the required selection into Lightroom.

This would open Lightroom's Import window with just the required images selected.

However - this OLE drag + drop seems to no longer work as of the recent update.

The import window opens - but no images are selected.
Although the Import window does show the correct source.

Am using Lightroom CC Classic on Windows 10.
Have tried with Bridge 9 and 10 (I have both installed) - but neither works

Updates to Lightroom Classic were released last night that address this issue. Please download the latest update via your Creative Cloud app and install. Please let us know if you continue seeing the issue after updating to 9.2.1. Thank you for your patience!

Thanks - yep can confirm it works for me.

Steps:
- Insert XQD card to reader
- Browse with Bridge
- Select 2 images in Bridge (out of 119)
- Drag 2 images from Bridge to Lightroom Grid View
Result:
- Lightroom import window opens
- Showing the folder (memory card)
- Selecting just the 2 images I dragged, but showing the others

Dragging from Bridge (9.1) to a Windows Explorer folder works Ok.
So I suspect the issue is on the Lightroom Classic end rather than Bridge end.

This is a Windows Explorer issue and not Lightroom. Just reboot and retry.

No it is not. Only LR has this problem and only in import dialog.

Rebooted - no change - issue still persists.
Not seen this happen before.

Last time I would have done this would have been 30th January. I can't recall if I've done a Windows update since then - but Lightroom/Bridge/Camera Raw updated today.

Hi Dafydd,

I don't seem to reproduce the issue (I tried dragging and dropping from Bridge to Lightroom Classic, as well as from Win Explorer to classic, it works fine in both cases).
Are you sure none of those photos were already imported ? Can you check the New Photos section in the Import window just to see if they can be selected to import?

Thanks,
Arjun

Tried dragging from memory card - Bridge + Win Explorer:
- UN-checking "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" - no change
- Selecting "New Photos" section - it showed the same amount of images as the All Photos i.e. 8 for this small test

Hi Dafydd ,

To investigate the issue further, could you please eject SD card connected to system(if any) and then try to drag and drop an image to Library?

Thanks
Mayuri

Ok - found some unusual results while testing with ejecting cards.
Tested this with both XQD and SD cards.
Two different readers for the SD.

First off - rebooted again, still happens.

If I plug in a card and try to drag the files into Lightroom Classic, from either Bridge or Win Explorer while they are still on the card - Lightroom shows the images/content of folder - but no images are selected.

If I copy the files to a local hard drive, but keep the memory card plugged in. Then try to drag some images from local drive folder to Lightroom - again same happens - lightroom shows the content of the folder - but no images are selected.
Import window is selecting the local drive folder not memory card.

If however - after copying the files to the local drive - I eject the memory card, then try to drag select files from local drive folder to Lightroom - It works - shows all the images but also automatically selects just the ones that I have dragged over.

I don't know if it matters - but on Lightroom import window - memory cards/drives seem to appear under both "Devices" and "Files". Maybe unrelated.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lr 9.2 Import dialog not selecting images to be imported.

I've updated to Lr Classic 9.2 and found a regressive problem already!

My system is Windows 10 Pro x64. I copied some new images from my SD card to a folder on my computer.

With Windows File Explorer open on top of Lr 9.2, I navigated to the folder containing new images, selected them, then 'drag and drop' them onto the Library panel.

The Import Dialog opens, but the images I selected from the file explorer for import are not selected.

This seems to be a regression from Lr Classic 9.1, which does have the dropped images selected in the Import Dialog.

If I click the Import button and navigate to the folder containing my images, the new images are selected as expected. If I use Synchronise Folder... with the 'Show import dialog before importing' option checked, the new images are selected as expected.

Jeffrey Tranberry where is the rest of my conversation with Mayuri Jain?

It's important because I found that it is not only an inserted SD card that causes this problem, it is an inserted USB memory device too.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Import bug in LR Classic where everything is always deselected.

I've been having a recent bug where the default import setting is to have everything deselected. I see no other way of operating the import menu to fix it either.
My setup with photos is to cull and rate them all in Photo Mechanic and then import to LR. Sometimes if I only want to import a certain selection from photo mechanic, I'll select all the ones of a certain number rating from PM and drag them into LR. In that LR import dialog box, it will usually show all the photos in that folder and the selected ones (that I chose from PM) to import are usually the exact same selection.
HOWEVER, recently, when I bring in a certain selection of photos or even the entire folder's worth, it will all be deselected. Not a single photo selected and I don't know why.

Similar to dragging from Lightroom or Windows Explorer - seems to be a bug.
The work around is to :
- copy images to a local disk
- eject the memory card
- THEN drag in from disk to lightroom
That should work,.

I hadn't noticed the problem being linked to a memory card being inserted.

A few more tests shows that it is also linked to having a USB memory device plugged in.

Nope.  Still displays everything in the directory whether I drag/drop one item, ten, or all.

With latest update 9.2.1 and latest Win 10 I still have the same issue - I cannot import any photos into LR Classic. I've checked all disks and card readers - nothing works.
No issue to open RAW files in Photoshop or other apps.
