Solved

Bridge: CS5 crashes on start. Will not run.

OK
Mac book Pro
Lion
CS5

Photoshop works great. No issues so far, but If I try to run bridge then bridge immediately crashes.
I can get mini bridge to run but it crashes as well as soon as it tries to fire up bridge proper.

Its a brand new install on a brand new macbook.

All other applications work flawlessly, Aperture, Office etc etc etc.

Any ideas. ?

I have reset permissions on bridge but it just will not open up. I read everything I can read and I have tried all the suggestions to date.

thanks.

Hi Louisa,

To hide the content native hidden, run command below:

>defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
>killall Finder

Each time you uninstall and then install again, the installation got unsuccessful result?

Thanks,
Bridge QE

Hi Louisa,

Could you please try pressing Shift key when launching Bridge, to see if it works.

Thanks,
Fran

I tried it twice.
Bridge does not open/start and looks to fail as per normal. It just won't run.

Hi Louisa,
Can you try manually creating a folder named "Bridge CS5.1" in Folder below?
/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/

Is there any authentication dialog or error message popped up?

Or can you create a new account and try using Bridge in the new created account?

Thanks

OK so I created a directory "Bridge CS5.1"

I created it on the desktop and when I went to move it to the Adobe folder I got:-
The item “Bridge CS5.1 ” can’t be moved because “Adobe” can’t be modified.

It then gave me the option to Authenticate the move folder to Adobe which I did with username and password. I could then add the "Bridge CS5.1" folder to Adobe.

Then then tried to run Bridge but it fails as per normal. I also tried with Shift key and it also fails.

Ok I created a new Admin account and Bridge worked for the first time.
When I go back to my account login which is also has admin rights it will still not work.

So the question now is how do I get the same access privileges to my original account. Is there a way to do this?

OK well have tracked down the issue to the folder users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe
I reset the permissions of this folder and now Bridge works as intended. I have no idea how this "Adobe" folder had the wrong permissions set, as it was a well hidden folder to find in the first place.

Maybe something to add to the support list of crazy "Lion" behaviour.

I'd really like to thank you all for your help and support in getting this issue sorted out. I would not have done this without your assistance.

Case closed.

Excellent. Glad it was solved. We've seen permissions get messed up when upgrading the OS from an previous OS (Non-clean install of OS), using User Migration Assistant or restoring user data from Time Machine.

It'd be interesting to know if any of the above were part of your upgrade process.

Hi Louisa,
Good to hear the problem is resolved. According your previous notes, it indicates you have no enough privileges for the user data folder. I heard the same issue before from other users. They use a permission repair tool to fix the problem.

I don't see how this Bridge problem is going to be solved, especially since I have been looking at a 7-month old discussion!

I had same problem. Would crash upon start up.
I held down the Apple Key, and clicked on Bridge in the dock.
It asked if I wanted to reset preferences, I said yes, I also checked off clear all image caches.
Now, it works perfect.
I lost all my favorites, but that's minor.

I had this exact same problem.
I tried everything.
I then held down Apple key, and clicked on Bridge icon in the dock.
It asked if I wanted to reset preferences, I did.
I also checked off to reset the thumbnail cache.
Now, everything works perfect.
I lost all the favorites in the side bar, but that's minor.

Let me pull it up. But just to follow up here, I created a new admin on my computer and Bridge will open there. I am not sure why it will not work in the admin account I normally use.

That means that there is a preference, OS setting, or permissions error causing the problem.

I just do not know why it will not work under my main user name.

Another note, I tried running the script you had above and could not get any hidden folders to show up - but when I tried to add a "library" folder it said it all ready existed in that location. :(
