Bridge: Ability to copy metadata from one image and paste it onto another

In Bridge, it would be really nice to be able to copy metadata (IPTC stuff) from one image and paste it onto another. Right now, unless a metadata template is used, there is no way to copy metadata from one photo to another. I would like to see an option in the Tools menu: copy metadata and paste metadata.

While not exactly what you're looking for, you can import and export XMP (which includes IPTC data) using the File Info window from Bridge.

With RAW files you don't even need to export to copy the metadata, since the XMP is already saved in a sidecar file that can be imported into other files.

Copy and paste metadata would certainly be much easier though.

It’s really ridiculous that this feature hasn’t been added or even included from the start. I’ve been waiting on it for years... Any 3rd party scripts I’ve found don’t work as advertised or at all. This is either a HUGE oversight or blatant disregard and they don’t give a crap about Bridge, just barely maintaining it and instead focusing on Lightroom.

If I wanted to use Lightroom, I would. But since Bridge is better suited for what I need to do; managing assets and adding metadata. What raw adjustments I need to do, I do through Camera Raw, and guess what? I can copy and paste those settings... So why not metadata?

I agree. Being able to copy IPTC Core data from one image to another is a badly needed update to Bridge.

How do you use the script?
I added it to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CC\Adobe Bridge CC 2017" Then when Bridge started up, it asked if I wanted to activate the extension, so I said Yes.
But I can't see any extra options for copy/pasting metadata?

I do get that panel now (It didn't appear on first opening Bridge after installing and activating the script). However mine has no options other than the Select Data, Reset, and Use Metadata buttons. Maybe it's not compatible with CC, I guess you're using an older version of Bridge?

BTW while Exiftool is an alternative, I wouldn't really class it as a suitable alternative. Opening up a command prompt / terminal and typing up the command is considerably more involved than right-click copy, right-click paste.

That screenshot was from CS6, however it does indeed work in CC2018, just a little bit different in the GUI rendering. Make sure that where the panel is docked is tall enough to display the script panel correctly:

Even this script does not offer the option of right click copy, right click paste... But it is the next best thing.

ExifTool is a “suitable” alternative, whether or not it is CLI or GUI based. There are not many programs out there that can do this. That being said, it is possible to combine the power of CLI with the ease of use of a GUI using Automator on the Mac, or AppleScript:

I have a “cheat sheet” of useful ExifTool commands that I copy/paste as required – so there is no need to type this stuff in from scratch each time. One can also drag-n-drop the file or folder paths/names from the Finder to Terminal.app or from Windows Explorer to the CMD prompt.

Has anyone used Paul's copy paste script in Bridge 2020? For me it looks OK - but doesn't copy the metadata. In fact, when I copy metadata (e.g. Description) from a RAW file to a derived JPG it blanks out the field on the target image.
