Bridge 9.0.2: Suddenly won't allow star rating

Just started happening out of the blue. Can't apply a star rating to files.

what kind of files are you trying to rate? Which OS? How are you applying the rating?

They are tif files. It’s Mac OS High Sierra. It doesn’t work with any method I know of, i.e., keystroke, clicking on stars under the thumbnail, or menu commands

The usual advice is to reset Bridge preferences and or cache for the viewed images, however this rarely appears to fix this particular issue.

If the images are on a server, try copying them to your local drive and see if there is any difference in behaviour.

I have had issues with some files that would not accept star/ratings until they were re-saved.

I am new to scripting, so please excuse the following code hacks, however I am hoping that they will work when native methods fail.

  1. Open Adobe Bridge, then open Bridge’s preferences dialog
  2. Under Startup Scripts, click the "Reveal My Startup Scripts" button
  3. Copy/Paste or drag-n-drop your .jsx script files into the Startup Scripts folder/directory
  4. Quit and restart Bridge and answer "Yes" to enable the 12 scripts.

Thanks for the attempt! your instructions were quite clear and all the steps seemed to go quite well, but still the ratings will not apply after the scripts were activated.
FYI: My tif files are on a server. I did also try resaving, clearing cache and resetting the preferences as well

You could uninstall and reinstall an earlier version of Bridge that did not have this issue.

If this was not workable, I personally would then use ExifTool to add ratings or labels. As ExifTool is a CLI program, I would first use Bridge to filter/sort/find the appropriate files and then drag-n-drop these files onto an app/shortcut or into a command window to apply the appropriate metadata. This is of course far from optimal.

Another related option would be to add metadata such as a specific keyword, which ExifTool would then use as a trigger to add the appropriate label or rating, which would be less manual than my first suggestion.

There is an acknowledged bug where working with files on a server is broken.

Adobe does not support working off a server with Bridge and Photoshop. Best bet is move files to a local hard drive when you work with them.

That's crazy! I can't use that as a solution - Working too many files for too many projects to do that. Adobe needs to fix this. I have been working off the server with all adobe products for over 15 years.

I installed Camera Raw 10.5. That did the trick.
