Premiere Elements: Editor Crashes

Premiere Elements 10 crashes almost immediately after the editor opens.
A window opens and says, "Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I am extremely frustrated with this. it has happened every time I have tried to open it.

What OS version?

And do you have the rest of the details from the crash? (the faulting module name would be most helpful)

Exact same problem Friday after new installation. Did a system restore Saturday. Reinstalling Elements now.

Didn't work. Now it says "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program". This same message appeared a few times last Friday also.

It sounds like we have a number of different error messages being reported by everyone here. So likely everyone is seeing their errors for different reasons.

Remember, this is a generic error, so, without extra details (like a faulting module) we can only really offer generic solutions.

Start here:
-Mac: Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Mac OS 10.x
-Win: Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows

As soon as I click the editor it crashed, I am using Windows 7 64 bit, the error message as I can remember is that the program encounter a serious problem and has to close, don't think its a generic error, its your program error!

Nope, that is a generic error, as reported by Windows. There are many possible causes to such behavior. Check out the steps in the document links I've posted above.

Complains about Display.dll.

Is this a video-driver issue maybe? I have a dual-monitor system, ATI Radeon HD 4250 with AMD Catalyst 12.4.
