Premiere Elements 2019 and HEVC Codec

I just bought Premiere Elemenst 2019. I wanted to edit some 4K videos I had made with my gopro Hero 7.  First I couldn't play them but after downloading a HEVC extension, as Mircosoft calls it, I could play the videos. Then I tried to open them in Premiere Elements and all I get is the following error: "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."
Obviously the codec is installed because I downloaded it before and was able to view the videos, so what is the problem here? Why isn't "this type of file" supported?

Premiere Elements 2019 supports HEVC codec on Mac OS (10.13 or later), not available on Windows 10. For more information on supported formats, please visit the page:https://helpx.adobe.com/in/premiere-elements/kb/supported-file-formats.html

Thanks,
Anubhav

You can convert the file using:

https://handbrake.fr/

from H.265 to H.264

Program is free.

Premiere Elements 2019 is supposed to be a one stop do it all package. Why would we bother wasting our times converting it before we can edit it? I won't - glad I'm on a trial version - i will purchase a competitor product.

And another thing - Their website is very mis-leading. Their website says it supports H.265..... on a mac, version blah blah. On their "supported file formats" chart on their website they list certain file formats not compatible with windows 7.... So one would assume H.265 it supported.

I just bought the Adobe Premiere Elements 2019 because I wanted an uncomplicated Editor. Since at least 2017 I have smartphones and/or cameras (Panasonic GH5) that record at 4K HEVC. When I saw that Premiere Elements 2019 (2019!!!) supported HEVC, I never paid attention that Mac or Windows versions had differences!

I am dissapointed that I have a 2000€ Desktop with Intel + Nvidia GPUs that support HEVC on the hardware and a "2019" Adobe software doesn ́t support it.
I am also having issues with GPU-Acceleration: my GPUs are used if I use an output from 480p, but HD / Full HD / 4k are being encoded with the CPU?!

So: an Adobe 2019-Software package isn ́t able to use HEVC + GPU to render 1080p / 4K files on my hardware. Nevertheless I bought also an editing software for Android (S9 Plus) and I encode THE SAME FILES muuuuuuuuuuch faster than Premiere Elements 2019 on my i7 + 16 GB RAM + Nvidia GTX 970 setup. Not to mention a friend makes video editing on the iPad much faster than I.

Disappointed. Next time I will buy a Mac + Apple software...

It's hard to believe that software that's meant to be used by the average person doesn't support such this video standard on the most widely used OS!

Certainly prevents me upgrading my version and will make the Organiser application pretty useless soon. Which is a shame as there's not much to complete with it.

I cant believe that adobe does not support h265 / HVEC.  I paid for software that SAYS it manages H265 / HVEC.
Comon adobe, stop the b.s. and give me what I paid for.

I found free software that works a lot better than this from Adobe and a lot less hardware hungry and manages x265 perfectly. If I could ask for a refund, I would...

A shame Adobe sleeps over the premiere and photoshop success. Adobe software ist bloated and overrated. A fact unfortunately... I knew that for years but I gave a chance after so many years, only to discover, nothing has changed.

After now on I will support the free community, the results are better and I give them what I want.
