Photoshop Elements: How do I recover photos from online storage on Photoshop.com?

a few months ago i downloaded about a thousand photos to adobe online storage. at that time the adobe software erased any photos downloaded from my hard drive, after it was transferred to adobe online storage. now i can not access most of those photos - 58 of the approximate thousand photos are available. now i need some of them - how do i access them?

Photoshop Elements doesn't delete your files without your express command to do so. If you want to delete files, you still have to confirm that you want to do more than just remove the file reference from the catalog/database. Uploading files through sync with Photoshop.com will not delete the files from your hard drive. Even deleting the files from Photoshop.com will not delete the corresponding files from you computer.

But, if you have uploaded the files to Photoshop.com, this is considered a backup and you can restore this backup. All you have to do is sync up the web site with your computer. This will download the files that are missing.

However, if your files have become disconnected in the catalog, that doesn't necessarily mean they have been deleted. But they are not considered missing in terms of syncing. The best option is to reconnect the files (disconnection happens when the file has been moved, renamed, or deleted outside of the Elements Organizer). If the files have actually been deleted from the computer for some reason, then delete the file references from the Organizer and then resync to download the files.

How do you sync up the web site with your computer? Also, I have all my photos individually in the organizer, but when I changed computers, lost the album collections on my computer. Can this be downloaded or synced to recover in that form? Thanks. cpe

To sync Photoshop Elements with Photoshop.com:

    1. Sign into your Photoshop.com account through Photoshop Elements: From the bottom of the Welcome Screen or the top of the Editor or Organizer.

    2. In the Organizer, go to Edit>Preferences>Backup/Synchronize.

    3. Put a check in the box "Backup/Sync is on".

    4. Select your options for how you would like to back up your files. A. All files that are not in an Album. B. Selecting individual Albums. C. Your entire Elements Organizer Catalog.

I have crashed my computer and when I reinstalled Elements 8 my organizer shows alot of yellow question marks on some of my thumbnail images. These were all backed up before my crash.
How can I get my backed up pictures to reapear on my computer?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Photoshop Elements Organizer: backup pictures after OS reinstall.
    • This should mean you've backed up your files to Photoshop.com. Here is how to restore them from an online backup:

      1. Sign into your Photoshop.com account. (From the Welcome Screen, or at the top of the Organizer).
      2. Go to File>Reconnect>All Missing Files.
      3. Click the Browse button as it starts to search for your files.
      4. Click the "Check Online" button in the lower left to pull a copy of a file from the web site. If this button is grayed out, it means Photoshop Elements didn't upload the file to Photoshop.com.

I have photoshop elements 7. I'm setting up a new computer. I went into my backup/sync as above to retrieve my photos from my online storage. My album names were all imported into my organizer, but no picutures. How do I get my pictures into the organizer? Thanks.
    • There should be no trick here. The pictures should download along with the Albums. But the Albums will download a lot faster (it's just text after all). It could be that the images are queued and processing. I'd check the sync status (click the little safe icon at the bottom and choose "View Backup/Synchronization Status".

I have elements 8 and I never saw a way or welcome screen to set up an account. Is that because I already have one. I also do not see an organizer for anything. I see the organizer in photoshop.com only when I upload from there

Value is going to be determined by what you plan on using from a Plus membership. It does give you extra storage space on Photoshop.com, but you can get the same space cheaper if all you want is space. There are also additional slideshow templates on Photoshop.com, if you plan on showing off you images that way. But most of the rest of the extra features are Photoshop and Premiere Elements downloadable content (stuff that gets downloaded directly into the application), so Photoshop CS6 doesn't gain anything from your Plus membership.

Not many people buy both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. Generally it's Lightroom that is paired with one or the other. If you are getting Photoshop CS6, I wouldn't really recommend getting Photoshop Elements or a Plus membership.
    • Thanks again Brett, I am a software nut that is why I feel the need for all of them. The plus I am getting to replace my pro gallery from Apple and I use it for business so will have a lot of video and will need the extra space to accommodate and host it basically. I have lightroom but do not use it much. I think I will just get the plus and start with the extra 20gb and see if that is enough. Thanks again for your help
