Elements Organizer: Can not launch

I have no problem getting Editor to launch and as far as I can see, is working fine. However can't get Organizer to launch at all.

In the "Welcome" screen when I click on Organizer, for a fraction of a second "launch Organizer" flashes in the top right of the screen, and a bar appears for a short while as if it is trying to load photos, then disapears and nothing happens. Has anyone any good ideas on what I need to try next? I have tried re-installing the disc a couple of times with no joy in getting the Organizer to work. I have also created a shortcut for the organizer and that didn't work. I have tried to reset the preferences but I can't get to that menu. When I hold down ctrl, alt, shift nothing comes up! Very frustrating! I would appreciate any help and advice. Thanks

    I’m confident
You could try manually recreating the preferences. Simply remove/rename the folder here:
    WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\[Version number]\Organizer
    WinVista/7: C:\Users\[User Name]\Roaming\App Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\[Version number]\Organizer

Additionally, test with a new catalog. Simply hold down the shift key at launch to bring up the Catalog Manager before the Organizer opens. If this fails to work, you can do the same sort of manual override. If you move or rename the default catalog folder, the Organizer will ask you where it is or let you create a new catalog. The default location for Catalogs is:
    WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs
    WinVista/7: C:\Program Data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs
    • This sounds like the same fix that i received after a 1 hour chat/computer-screen-takeover session with Sumitra of Adobe. I couldnt follow what he was doing myself, but it had something to do with a "corrupted" Catalog file.

Now, I can launch Organizer from a direct shortcut, but NOT from the Welcome screen, which is okay. I also set-up a direct editor shortcut. i like this better anyway.

[MY PROBLEM: The first time I try to launch PSE-10 Organizer it freezes. After the first attempt, nothing happens when i click to launch. I've already re-installed several times. Also, i tried a direct short-cut, but nothing works. I'm using W7-64 bit version.]

  • I have Photoshop Elements 9 and all of a sudden I can not log in to Organizer. Edit mode works fine and Organizer used to work. The Organizer appears in the Task Bar, but will not load. Has anyone else had this problem. I am thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop Elements 9 However, I was wondering whether anyone else has had this problem.

This is new install of PSE 10, On opening the organizer it crashes immediately, I have repaired the catalog but the error still occurs.

This is very disappointing as I had a similar issue with with PSE 6 and gave up to move to another freeware program.

Is there a limit to the number of files ?

  • Hi
The files are from a Panasonic DMC-ZS3 camera. I can't remember how they are imported , possibly via Picasa.

They play correctly in Windows Media Player and I have no other video editing software on my PC. I have attached a media info file for one of the files.

  • I am having the same problem. My welcome screen pulls up, but if I choose Catalog sometimes the catalog starts to pull up and other times it automatically closes everything. No matter what- I can't use the Catalog part of the program. I am so frustrated to have downloaded this program and run into this problem. I had Photoshop Elements on my other computer and eventually (after downloading / scanning 20,000 photos) it just stopped working. I don't know why I decided to try again. I have worked so hard tagging all my photos only to lose all my work! So frustrated. I am going to try what is suggested above, and hope it works.

Mine is still not resolved. My Welcome screen pulls up for a fraction of a second and then closes. I have tried renaming the folders named above and I have also tried holding the shift key to get some other menu to pull up with NO success. I am still so frustrated...

  • further info on the problem-- even though the organizer appears to "crash" while trying to load and dissappears from the screen when I go to task manager it shows that the organizer is still running and I have to manually "end the task" to get it to shut down.

Since there are several users posting similar problems in this discussion, but not all of their problems are the same, this suggestion is targetted to those having this symptom:

You attempt to launch the Organizer from the Unwelcome Screen and the Organizer does not start, but you see a "PhotoshopElements" running task in Task Manager.

Bypass the Unwelcome Screen by creating Desktop shortcuts for the Organizer and the Editor.

    The Editor's executable is:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"

    The Organizer's executable is:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"

The Unwelcome Screen leaves a zombie process running which prevents the actual program from launching again.

  • If I go to start Elements 10 from the Desktop icon, Elements won't start. Except, that it IS running in Task Manager. NO errors.
If I go to the Desktop icon, right click and choose OPEN, the mouse flickers to an hour-glass, and Elements starts up.
Everything seems to work, otherwise. Will try re-doing the Desktop icon.

  • If I double-click on either Photoshop Elements icon on Desktop, or the "Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe" (which the shortcut is supposed to run), I get Nothing (no windows, no errors, no program). I look in Task Mgr and see Photoshop Elements 10.0.exe running, but taking nothing, or no more than 1% or CPU.
If I End Task on 10.0.exe, then Right-click either the shortcut, or the file under Programs Files/Adobe/... and choose OPEN, Elements runs.

    • I just ran thru a Norton Utils registry scan. Found some problems with shortcuts, and some other things. Ran repair. Elements now comes right up, with a double-click on desktop icon. Wonder if I would be able to search, and find, the specific repair, from the log .... Without losing my eyesite.

    I have solved my problem.

Here is how I got my program to start running again:
First, I clicked on the desktop Photoshop 10 icon to bring up the welcome screen. Once the welcome screen popped up I chose the edit tool instead of the organize tool. My editing tool opened Photoshop Elements Editor and I clicked on Organize from the Editor (top right-hand side). To my amazement the organizer would open when I went about it this way. Now, with the Organizer open I could go to File>Catalog. The Catalog dialog box opened up and I highlighted my catalog in the bottom section of the dialog box, clicked repair, and what do you know...it found errors, and corrected them. I closed both my Editor and my Organizer. Finally, I brought up the welcome screen again chose Editor and then Organize just to make sure I could still go in the back way, and I could. I closed it all down again (Photoshop Elements Editor and Catalog). Then, reopened the welcome screen and chose Organize. THE ORGANIZER PULLED UP! HALLELUJAH!

Sorry for the wordy explanation. I am not a programer nor am I a computer savy problem solver. This strange back way in helped me solve my issue with the program and I hope it helps you get yours back up and running. When this program runs properly it is a wonderful tool.

  • I am running PSE 9 on a Mac (OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard) and in the past few days, Organizer has decided to not launch (crashing somewhere during the initializing step) or getting to the Organizer page ever so briefly before crashing. When it gets tot he page, it has the black & white ball (Black & white quarters) in place of the typical cursor icon. That sticks around for 2 or 3 seconds after the page disappears.
    There is no error message

I have attempted to launch from the icon in applications (which is how I have started it since I started using PSE 9 about a year ago), I have tried by opening the editor feature and then clicking on "Organizer" and I have tried by going to the PSE welcome page. No matter the method, the result is still the same.
I don't know if this is related, but ever since I have used PSE 9, I have had periodic issues "getting" photos into Organizer from files and folders. Sometimes, the import would freeze and I would have to try again. sometimes 5 or 6 times before finally getting the photos to actually import. The import would always eventually be successful, so if this is not related to the launch issue, please disregard, I included the detail in case it was a symptom of something else.
