Elements: Brush/eraser hangs in Yosemite MacOS 10.10
Photoshop Elements hangs now when I use brush/eraser tools following the installation of Mac Yosemite OS on my Mac. Others have reported this problems on other feeds. I hope that Adobe will give priority to fixing the apparent incompatibility of Printshop Elements with Yosemite OS.

2The Yosemite update 10.10.1 should natively correct this issue.
Go to the Apple menu and select "Software Update..." or launch the App Store application and click on "Updates" to install the latest OS updates.

As others have reported, switching to a mouse resolved the hang on my machine - although I haven't tested all features yet.

Rather than finger-pointing back and forth between Apple and Adobe, seems to me that both Adobe and Apple need to collaborate and find a solution. Adobe: you need to do your utmost. Your user community expects no less.

when ever I try to use the rubber tool or any tool that involves a brush, the whole program freezes but the computer does not freeze its self. the program just freezes. -
-
woowwww, very good the workaround plug in and all problems away to work with the trackpad. Thx so much
-
-
Jordan, try to use your mouse instead of the trackpad. Also look on this thread - Adobe has published a plugin for Elements 12 that works perfectly.
-
-
~Plug in did not work, so will stick with usb mouse, instead of trackpad until resolution is received from you and Apple :(

-
Plug in is now working for me! Thank you for this temporary fix. Please let us know when the permanent fix is available.

Photoshop Elements 12 keeps freezing everytime I use any of the brushes including spot healing, impressionist, normal, etc. I'm forced to get shut down the application through the control center and lose all of my work. It's been doing this ever since I downloaded OS Yosemite -

I upgraded my computer to OS X Yosemite. Wondering if this is why my spot healing brush does not work anymore?-
Install the plug-in in the official answer at the top. It should solve your problem.

works very well, thanks, Jeffrey!!

Jeffrey, I think I've replied to at least 25 people on various forums and FB sites with this same answer- perhaps Adobe should put this workaround at the beginning of their forums page? seems people just go ahead and add their issue and don't scroll through the forums to see if it's been answered!

Do you know when Mac will be resolving this issue. I downloaded the zip & it says it does not recognize this type of file.
-
Did you put the unzipped plugin in the Plug-Ins folder?
It sounds like you tried to open it by mistake. -
-
or Tracy, just use your mouse if you don't understand how to put the plugin into your file folder. Using the mouse solves the problem as well

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Clone Stamp in Elements 12.1 freezes.
I attempted to use the Clone Stamp feature (on several photos) in Elements 12.1 (several attempts). It allowed only a circular clone stamp the size of the stamp, before the whole program froze. Had to Force Quit every time. HELP!-
if you go to the top of this topic you'll see a solution by Adobe - it's highlighted in pink- they've created a temporary plugin that will help you out -- otherwise if you use your mouse instead of your trackpad, Elements will not freeze either.

Now that I've upgraded to Yosemite in my Mac, the only thing I can do in Photoshop is crop pictures. If I try anything else, the program freezes. This is crazy. I've only had Photoshop for a year and now I can't do any of the things I bought it for. I wish I would have been warned not to download Yosemite. Any fixes?? -
-
Emily, try downloading and installing the plug-in listed at the top of the page. It totally solved my issues with Yosemite and Elements 12. You can also try using your mouse instead of a trackpad...but for me it was more convenient to just use the plug-in

Photoshop Elements V. 12 keeps freezing when I try and use brushes – any brush, even the default ones. I just downloaded the new Yosemite software for my Mac, so it might be compatibility issues too. -

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Elements 12 moving layers not working - bounces back to original spot..
I'm all of a sudden having an issue with Photoshop Elements 12 on my Mac. Anytime I try to move a layer to a new spot on the page, once I let go of the mouse, it jumps back to its original spot on the page. I've tried quitting photoshop and reopening it but that doesn't seem to work. Is there a trick on how to fix this? Not sure if the fact I have OS X Yosemite is an issue because Photoshop was working on it before, even with OS X Yosemite installed. Any ideas would be great. Thanks! -

As soon as a photo opens in the PSE 12 editor and you select a brush tool for example the product hangs and must use force quit to close the program. No editing can be performed. -

for those of you posting in the past 20 minutes, look at the top of this page for the answer to your problems -- it's in a big pink box - it will tell you how and where to get a plugin that will solve your issues. or you can simply use your mouse. Adobe and Apple are working on the issue - it's a trackpad issue for the most part.

That was from me trying to clean up other topics that referred to this same issue and merge them all in here -- so we have one location to update, and one official topic about this MacOS 10.10 issue. Many of the topics already had solutions/workarounds listed in the replies.

When I try to install the zip file it comes up with the message 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop Elements does not recognize this type of file.'

Don't try to open the plug-in. Just follow the instructions and place the plug-in in the plug ins folder and relaunch Elements.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled PSE-12 doesn't work with Yosemite, but older versions work fine..
Since upgrading my iMac and MacBook Pro to Yosemite, my PSE 12 tools no longer work. My old PSE 10 works just fine. I understand many others have similar issues, especially those using a trackpad and not a mouse. Is a fix coming for PSE-12? This seems to be an Adobe problem, not Apple, since older versions of PSE work just great with Yosemite. -

Carol, check out the Adobe official response at the top of the page for a plugin which will fix your Elements temporarily.

Ever since I upgraded my Macbook from OS X Mavericks to OS X Yosemite, several of the tools in PSE12 Editor won't work any more. The Editor freezes every time and I have to force quit out of it. I've tried reinstalling PSE12, but it hasn't made any difference. The tools that I've had problems with are the Clone Stamp, Healing Brush, Eraser and Brush. Please can you help? -

Alison, Apple has just released an update to Yosemite -- apparently that fixed the PSE 12 issue.

Thanks for letting me know. Just took a look in the App Store and it should make a few other improvements too. All good stuff!

Adobe moderators: I just got notification that Apple has released an update to Yosemite today. I also noticed it did NOT address the issue with trackpad. So are they just ignoring it I wonder? or did they decide that you came up with the plugin so therefore they didn't need to deal with it? Interesting!!

I just finished updating my MAC BOOK to Yosemite 10.10.1 and the trackpad works perfectly with my Elements 12. Looks like the best alternative.

Jim, that's good news - I guess Apple just didn't include the trackpad issue in the list of bugs that the update fixed!! thanks for being a pioneer - I always wait a few days before I install any new updates!!

As Jim mentioned 10.10.1 fixed the trackpad issue on my MacBook Pro. Given the list of fixes Apple does mention, looks like a good update.

Okay, that actually works in Photoshop CS6 as well. Seems to be responsive like it was in 10.9.x, so that's great.

PSE 12 freezes and requires me to force quit if I use features such as the spot healing tool, blur, dodging, burning, etc. I am able to use some features (crop, lighten, contrast, etc.). Anyone else experience this issue and find a resolution? -

this issue was solved by an Adobe plugin until the Yosemite update came out --- update your computer to Yosemite and you should have no further problems

My Yosemite and Adobe are both updated. That did not fix the issue for me.

really? wow! that's the first I've heard of it. Did you try applying the Adobe plugin that's at the top of this page before you did the Yosemite update? You should have seen a change then. seeing as the Yosemite update did not fix your problem, you might want to back up everything on your computer and do a clean install of Yosemite - a lot of work but might solve the problem. good luck.

I hope it works, Shannon. Let me know. Be sure you do a really thorough back up (do you use Time Machine? - that worked for me -- I did a double TM backup about an hour apart just to be sure).

Looks like Adobe solved problem with Clone Erase. I updated Elements, and there is no longer a problem. There was an option to allow plug-ins. Works great. Thanks all!

is there an free upgrade or do I have to buy another version of this elements program-
Debra, did you do the update to Yosemite? that should fix the issue. Previously Adobe had posted a plugin that was a temporary solution - I applied that and then when Yosemite was updated, I just left it in place -- no problems for Elements 11 or 12 after that. Go to the very top of this page - the Adobe fixes are in a big pink box. Good luck!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Problems using Elements 12 with Wacom Ituos Pro + Mac Yosemite. Lasso tool and zo....
I am experiencing lasso tool time lag/early selection closure plus intermittent problems with zoom when using Wacom tablet. Seems to be common problem that has been around some time. Only work-arounds/fixes I can see relate to Photoshop CC (not Elements). Have applied latest updates to Elements, Wacom and Mac OS X 10.10.2 Running on mid 2010 iMac (Intel core i5 - 4GB memory).
I have no problems with lasso selection in Elements when I use standard mouse instead of Wacom pen. The Wacom Intuos seems fine with other software (e.g. Manga Studio, Sketchbook Pro). All issues seem to happen when Elements meets Wacom.
Wacom have responded with a shrug and directed me towards Adobe.
I have 2 questions
1- Is software conflict the most likely cause of my problems or is there anything I can try?
2- If this is still a compatibility problem, can anyone tell who is doing what to resolve it?
Thanks for listening -
