Photoshop Elements: Organizer 10 cannot read AVCHD
Organizer 10 cannot read AVCHD (.mts) format anymore from my Sony SLT-A55. Organizer 9 did perfectly. However Premier Elements 10 can open them...pretty annoying.
-
Hi,
What do you mean by 'cannot read'? Are the files imported in Organizer but no thumbnail and/or playback?

1Hi,
Please confirm that the copy of Premiere Elements 10 (PRE10) installed on your system, is serialized i.e. you have Premiere Elements with a serial number.
Incase, you've a serailixed PRE10, please do following steps and let me know the results:
1) Re-launch PRE if it is already running
2) Import one of the AVCHD (mts) to PRE
3) Now, try to play that file in Organizer.
Also, tell us about the Operating System present on the machine.

Hi,
@Akshaya: the video files will import into the organizer, but there will be no thumbnail neither playback in organizer. The files only play in PRE10.
@Ankur: my copy of PRE10 is serialized and registered. I will do the steps you suggest later today (I`m at work now!).
My OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
Thanks for the support! I really appreciate it.

Hello!
Thanks for your response. Did the solution that I provide work for you?
-Ankur -
-
Hi again!
@Ankur
I've tried to do what you suggested:
1) Re-launch PRE if it is already running
2) Import one of the AVCHD (mts) to PRE
3) Now, try to play that file in Organizer.
The video (.mts) does play in PRE, but it will still not play in Organizer.
I have the feeling the solution could be simple. Do you think it could be caused by the fact that PRE10 is 64-bit? I'm not sure that Organizer is 64bit...
Thanks again,

So does this mean that we have gone backwards since PSE8 Organizer?
Annoying! -

Hi,
The issue seems to be non-registration of AVCHD codecs on your machine.
Please do the following steps:
1) Close PRE and Organizer.
2) Go to C:/Program Data/ Adobe/Common/ Adobe/ARA/10.0/ and delete the Repository file present at that location.
3) Re-launch PRE.
4) Import an MTS file. A 'User Account Control' dialog will pop up. Click 'YES'
5) Launch Organizer and play 'MTS' files.
Please let me know if this solution works for you.
Thanks

Hi Ankur
I've tried following your instructions...
I didn't get the UAC message - it seemed to be fine. Do you mean we have to import from the camera? Or just open an existing MTS?
thanks -
-
Hi Melissa,
Can you check if Repository file is present at
" %ProgramData%/Adobe/Common/ Adobe/ARA/10.0/ " ?
If yes, try after deleting it. It is just about opening an MTS file in PRE?
Please share the video camera make/ model from which you took these AVCHD files.
Regards

There's no issue opening the MTS file in PRE
What I want to do is view my MTS files in the PSE Organizer.
The camera was a Panasonic Lumix (not sure what model) I don't have access to the camera as it belongs to our parents. -
-
Hi Melissa,
I understand that it is Organizer that is not playing the MTS files. Actually, PRE registers the required decoders that are required to play these files in Organizer.
So, I'll request you to please try the steps given above by me.
Also, the reason behind asking the camera model was to learn more about its output video format, which in turn can help in solving your problem.
Cheers!!

Yes, I did follow the steps, just got no error message.
I renamed the decoder file. It's now created a new one there.
After restarting, now the Organizer can play the files.
Thanks for your help! -
-
Great then..liked that smiley :)
Hi jfcarrier,
Can you also try the steps mentioned above?
-Ankur -

First thing when I'm back from work! Looking forward to this and I have a good feeling.

Hi again!
BTW, thanks for the support.
Unfortunately, the sequence suggested by @Ankur does not seem to work.
I have done as mentioned, closed everything, delete (and even tried renaming) the Repository file in the Commons/ folder, imported a .mts file (from a camera, from elsewhere in my computer, etc.).
However, I never received a 'User Account Control' dialog. Still launched the Organizer and .mts will not 'play' neither display a thumbnail.
Thanks,

Hi,
Did you import the mts file in PRE after deleting the repository?
Also, please check that whether a new repository file is created at " %ProgramData%/Adobe/Common/ Adobe/ARA/10.0/ ".
-Ankur -
-
Hello,
Exactly, I've deleted the repository then imported an mts file in PRE.
After, I've checked in the %ProgramData%/Adobe/Common/ Adobe/ARA/10.0/ " and no new file was created.
Still does not work when I open Organizer after.
Thanks,
JFC -

Hi Jeff,
It's interesting that the repository is not getting created again once you deleted it.
It should be created on importing mts.
I hope PRE was closed while you were deleting the repository.
- Can you check by importing a mpeg 2 encoded or a 3gp file
File extns could be .mpg, .tod, .mod, .vob. .3gp, .mp4 etc
Please share the camera make and model info from which you shot these mts files.
-Ankur -
-
Hi again,
I think I've got some interesting results for you, Ankur.
First, PRE was definitely closed while deleting the repository.
Second, I was wrong, the repository is created again. However, it seems that the repository is created during the "opening" of PRE, not while .mts are imported.
Thirdly, the most interesting. After deleting the repository, I've opened PRE and imported a .3gp and the systemed responded completely differently as it does while I import .mts files. I was like if it was adding the codec in some registry (I'm no specialist here). The .3gp file then woked in the Organizer.
This looks like what we are looking to created with the .mts files.
My camera is a Sony, the model is SLT-A55
Thanks again,

Hi
Running Window 7 x64, and Premiere Elements 10.
Organizer is not able to play the mts files imported into organizer. No thumbnails shows up. If I try to play the mts files using Windows, everything works just fine. I am also able to play the mts files using Premier Elements. It is just in the organizer they do not play.
When doble clicking a mts-file in organizer an error dialog shows up saying:
Caption: "Unable to load movie"
Message: "The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compresser/decompresser(codec) installed. Click here for more information"
My camcorder is a Canon HF100

Hi Jeff & Jan,
I've sent you an email at your respective email ids with a request to share the sample mts files.
This will really help us in narrowing the issue.
We’ll delete the file from the dropbox once the files are downloaded and will send you the confirmation for the same.
Thanks

Hi Ankur,
I've placed a sample .mts file in the dropbox account you've sent us.
By the way, I have the same error dialog as Jan.
Thanks again,

I've uploaded a mts file from the Canon HF100 camcorder yesterday. I recorded a small 25 sec video in 1440x1080, in bad light conditions, just for the test.
Thanks

Hi!
Any updates on this problem, Ankur Agrawal? Did you find anything using the two mts-files we've uploaded?
JIV -
-
Hi Jeff/ Jan,
Thanks for providing the file. My apologies for late reply. I missed the track of the post.
Both your files played fine on our systems and showed no problem during playback.
On your system, the issues is happening because Organizer is not getting access to the proper video decoders to play these files.
I've sent you an email.Meanwhile, I'll try to find a way to fix the problem.
Thank you for your patience.

Great to hear you are working on this issue :-).
Some more information ...In case it could be relevant;
I am running the 64 bit version of Premier Elements. When checking task manager in Windows, I can see that Organizer is still a 32 bits version. I guess that is correct.
I've been using both version 8 and 9 of Premier Elements. Both versions were installed on a Windows x32, and was working perfect. Before installing the 64bit version of PE, I changed to Windows 7 x64 (The same computer). I think that is when I started to experience that Organizer was not able to play the mts files.

Hi!
Found a solution. Uninstalling everything, including Photoshop elements, and then reinstalling again, did the thing. Last time I tried to uninstall and then reinstall, I did not uninstall photoshop elements.
I think the reason for my problem was that I installed version 10 of photoshop elements and premier elemenets first, and then uninstalled version 9... The uninstallation of version 9 did probably remove som references that was still needed by version 10.
So, my advice is: uninstall all the old versions before you start installing the new ones!

I’m

Hi Jan,
Thanks for this break-through :)
Indeed installing and re-installing PSE/ PRE both fixes this issue.
We are still working on finding the exact cause and solution but this work-around fixes the issue. The main cause of this issue is off course, some interaction between the registered components of EO and OS going bad.
I'll update you if we find the exact solution for same,
JFK,
Please uninstall both PSE and PRE from your machine and re-install them.

I Ankur,
I've tried many times all the suggestion on this page :
1) Deleting the repository. The repository re-appear after deleting it. No error message.
2) De-installing Premiere 8 and 10.
3) Install an re-install PRE (serial) and PSE (trial) version 10.
4) Importing again an MTS from a file or from my camera. It appear in the catalog but Organizer freeze all the time when I tried to play back.
I work with :
- Windows XP services pack 3
- Sony Handycam HDR-CX550 AVCHD
I will appreciate any help to get my system working properly.
Thanks !

Hi Carl,
Are you trying to import in Organizer 10 or 8? Does this file play well in Premiere Elements?
Also, what is the size of the file that you are tying to import?
- Ankur -
-
Hi Ankur,
I'm trying to import in Organizer 10. The file play well in Premiere Elements (except the first reading take time to start). There is a lot of different size : 11 secondes to 1 minute 23 secondes. -
-
Hi Carl,
Recently, we've started facing issues with AVCHDs on some of the user machines. Strange enough, re-installing the application fixes this issue.
But as the issue is not getting fixed on your machine even after re-installing so I've sent you a separate email at your email id with a request to share the sample AVCHD file and repository file.
These will really help us in narrowing the issue.
We’ll delete the file from the dropbox once the files are downloaded and will send you the confirmation for the same.
Thanks

Last night a AVCHD video was uploaded to Elements 10 Organizer. It has now stopped working in the Catalog after 2 seconds of trying to open. Adobe phone in support was useless after 90 minutes on the phone.
Very disappointing that Adobe has not fixed this problem that has been widely documented in the Forums. I suggest staying away form Organizer programs if you have videos. -
-
The posts on this topic are several months old... I have this problem as well. Has any solution be developed short of uninstall/reinstall? What a pain in the a**.
-
-
I'm having the same problem: elements stopped working after videos import while trying to create the thumbnails.
-
-
I'm having the same issue. I have PRE 10 (and Photoshop 9), and organizer will not generate thumbnails. I'm using a brand new Dell with Windows 7 64 bit. I tried the above solution and it doesn' work. I use a Sony HD camcorder (AVCHD). My watch folders also don't work, and I tried the recommended solutions for that also.
-
I was able to talk to someone at Adobe for free, and it turned out that somehow the file was corrupted. He told me what to do and it worked fine after that. I'm not sure why the photoshop thumbnails were corrupted and everything was fine while I used Picassa, but I am starting to wonder if Photoshop is really worth the price difference. I talked to a professional photographer who said they use Picassa for organizing and Lightroom for editing...

I am having the same problem. I am using PSE 11 and PRE 11. Brand new installs and brand new computer. I have tried everything above short of uninstall, and nothing works. Years ago I quite using PSE 8 Organizer because of constant crashes and went to Picasa. I thought it might be time to come back, and first time up it crashed. And it can't play AVCHD. Maybe Steve Jobs was right about Adobe.

Hi Matt,
Please provide more info on the problem and steps.
1) Are you facing problem in playing videos?
2) Which type of video files are they? - their extensions, source etc
3) What error or problem do you see? - A screenshot will really help here.
4) Are these the serialized version of PSE & PRE or the trial ones?
5) Any other info that you want to add.
These answers will help us in understanding the problem and then we can work on resolving it.

Ankur -
